On March 31, the dKart team met with the Hong Kong Hydrographic Office (HKHO) to discuss the ongoing transition from the S-57 standard to S-101 for Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs). This meeting was a significant step in addressing key challenges and ensuring a smooth adaptation process for maritime stakeholders.
Representing dKart was Andrey Sabaydash, CEO of GeoPhone, who introduced the company’s approach to supporting the transition. He presented the capabilities of dKart Evolution, a software suite that enables seamless bidirectional conversion between S-57 and S-101. This technology ensures that hydrographic offices, maritime authorities, and ship operators can maintain full interoperability between both standards during the transition phase.
During the discussion, the HKHO team highlighted the complexities of updating existing charting systems, the impact on navigational safety, and the need for efficient training and support for end-users. Both sides acknowledged the importance of close collaboration to facilitate a well-coordinated and efficient migration to the new standard.
The meeting reinforced dKart’s role as a key technology provider in the global shift towards S-101 and set the stage for further cooperation with Hong Kong’s hydrographic authorities. Future discussions and potential technical workshops are expected as the industry moves forward with this critical transformation.
